Road repairing machine - initially makes grooves in surface and furrows in undamaged portions

A groove is cut which is deeper and wider than each rut etc., in the road surface. The groove may be shaped with stepped sides and the undamaged road surface may have lengthwise furrows cut into it, to improve the adhesion between the old and new material. The machine for removing the old road surface comprises six rollers, each of which has drilling-bits around its circumference. For drilling the furrows, the right-hand, left-hand and two centre rollers have one drilling-bit which projects further than the others. Each roller is mounted with its shaft in two bushings which can be adjusted in height by means of a hydraulic cylinder fixed to a support projecting through the rollers. The shaft is mounted in two bearing-discs joined to the inside of the roller by means of a ball-bearing ring. A motor drives a ring gear fixed to the inside of the roller, by means of a toothed wheel fixed on its shaft.
