Over-bridging coupling for the selective coupling of a pump impeller with a turbine rotor of a hydrodynamic converter, particularly a torque converter of an automatic automotive gearbox, has a coupling plate located on a hub of the turbine rotor. On the plate's radial outer area, is a friction surface which works in conjunction with a similar surface on a converter cover connected with the pump impeller. Controllable pressure medium pipes (7, 17, 22, 23) are provided, one (7, 17) of which is connected to a pressure chamber (8) on the engagement side of the coupling plate, and the other (22, 23) to a pressure chamber (21) on the plate disengagement side.
