The underground hydrant has an outward leading opening (8) for draining the casing pipe (3) which has a flange which, with an intermediary seal, is bolted to the flange of the water-conducting pipeline (1). The pipe (3) houses an operating rod (7) for a valve (6) for opening and closing the pipeline. The drainage outlet (8) is opened simultaneously with the closing of the water supply so that residual water in the casing pipe can run off. The outlet opens into a chamber (9) which is sealed off from the ground and is connected via one or more boreholes (10) in one casing pipe flange with the intermediary chamber (5) between the two flanges.
