摘要
High pressure and temp. is generated in gases by initiating and maintaining a thermonuclear reaction in a hydrogen plasma in a hollow annulus. A thermonuclear pump is used to initiate and maintain the reaction. In the add., a shell-type transformer is used for enclosing the hollow annulus. This transformer has a laminated iron core carrying the prim winding; outside this is the torus contg. the hollow annulus, which is evacuated and then charged at low pressure with a hydrogen mixt. (deuterium + tritium). The outside casing of the transformer is constituted of a number of segments with radial insulation layers between them to prevent a sec. annular current being generated in this region; the core and segments are closed to a magnetic circuit by upper and lower plates contained in the housing, and upper and lower cover plates. The prim. and the torus constitute an induction system; after preheating, the gas in the annulus is concentrated by the magnetic system towards the central axis of this annulus, resulting in further intense heating. The preheating is effected ohmically by the induced short-circuit current, while the later heating is produced by current pulses of a winding contained in the prim. The axis of the thermonuclear pump enters the torus tangentially to the hollow annulus. This thermonuclear pump injects hot helium plasma to initiate fusion in the already preheated plasma contained in the hollow annulus.
