The office chair has a back support (2) which can be inclined relative to the seat plate (1) with the swivel axis extending above the seat plate (1) and in front of the back support (2) to ensure that the back rest automatically follows the body movements. The articulated joints of the chair are formed by the ends (3, 4) of the arms of the seat plate and back rest and can be held firm by clamps or friction engagement. The swivel axis is preferably incoroeal and controlled by circular segments beneath the seat plate.
