The system for controlling the flow of passengers at railway stations is suitable for reducing the time spent stopping for passengers to board and alight during rush-hours in heavily used urban transport systems. Optical indicator devices (3, 6) are mounted in vehicles (2) and along platforms (1) in the trainstopping areas. The indicators are regulated according to the traffic flow prevailing, and indicate exits or entrances. They may be switched on and off as required, and are pref. mounted above passengers' heads. The indicators at the station may be fitted in the floor.
