A simple network is used by means of which a number of data words, each typically of four bits, can be stored and altered in the form of addressable words. It is for use in communications and other applications. Four sets (SW1, SW2, SW3, SW4) each of four switches (S1-S4, S5-S8, S9-S12, S13-S16) are set according to the data which is required to be stored. According to each switch position, a OV signal or alternatively an open circuit signal is presented to one line in a matrix array addressed by four multiplexer units (MX1-MX4) using two input addressing lines (A1, A2). The data corresponding to the particular four bit word address selected by these lines is then output on four common highways (D1-D4) from the multiplexers.
