The colour roller for an offset printing machine incorporates a cooling and tempering system in which the cooling fluid flows through the interior, in a counter flow heat exchanger arrangement. Through the end of the spindle (2) is a tube (3) through which enters the cooling liquid. It passes around the end (4) of the roller, which acts as a displacement member. This guides it through a gap (8) between a separating tube (5) and then through holes (9) so that its flow is reversed, to travel through another gap (9) in the opposite direction. An outer tube (6) encloses this gap. The flow then is discharged through the space between the inner tube (3) and the hollow spindle (2), still in the opposite direction.
