High gloss polycarbonate surfaces - achieved by exposure to vapour contg. acetone, methylene di:chloride and/or chloroform and inert solvent such as polyethylene glycol!
High gloss polycarbonate surface parts are achieved by (i) swelling and plasticising the parts to be treated by exposure to a vapour contg. acetone, CH2Cl2 and/or CHCl3 and also an inert solvent, and (ii) drying. Pref. inert solvent is a polyethylene glycol, (I), having mol. wt. 200. The surfaces of dull or rough, esp. injection-moulded articles can be improved. Stress cracking is reduced and hardness is increased.
