New 2-arylamino-2-imidazoline derivs. are of formula (I) and their acid addition salts. In the formula R1 is H lower alkyl, lower hydroxyalkyl, lower alkoxyalkyl, benzyl or phenethyl; R2, R3, R4 are H, halogen or CH3. (I) can be used for the treatment of hypertension. Specific cpds. (I) include 1-benzyloxy-2-(2, 6-dichloroanilinoe)-2-imidazoline. In an example, this is prepd. by reacting 14 g N-benzyloxy-ethylenediamine dihydrochloride with 14.2 g N-(2. 6-dichlorophenyl)-isocyanide dichloride in 100 ml DMF in the presence of 9.6g NaOH in 50 ml water.
