Straw fermentation for preparing animal feedstuffs is effected by wetting ordinary straw with a 3-5% yeast-water (pref. yeast-milk) soln. and storing in a coverable container of opt. size up to AcOH fermentation, e.g. for 36-72 hrs. After fermentation the material can be dried and processed or mixed to animal feedstuffs, or used to recover pure protein. AcOH fermentation activates the formation of digestible feedstuffs. Digestible crude protein prodn. is increased by 600% after 36 hrs. of AcOH fermentation and by 700% after 72 hrs.
