1372451 Freeze concentrating STRUTHERS SCIENTIFIC & INTERNATIONAL CORP 4 Jan 1973 [5 Jan 1972] 365/72 Heading B1G Concentrated aqueous solutions of organge juice are made by cooling a dilute solution to form a slurry of ice and concentrated solution, feeding the slurry to a draining column, removing concentrated solution from the column and subjecting the drained ice to centrifugal separation to remove and recover further amounts of the concenetrated solution. Preferably the slurry is fed to the lower part of the column and drained ice removed from the upper part of the column. As shown a slurry of ice and solution from crystallizer 14 is fed to vertical draining tank 10 via inlet 11. The ice fills the column to a level 12 and the lower part of column 13 is mainly water. The concentrated organge juice is filtered off through medium 15, pases into channel 17, and recovered from pipe 18. The wet ice assisted by scaper 20 on rotating spindle 21, gravitates to centrifuge 23 via channel 22. Ice is fed out of the centrifuge at 26 and solution recovered from pipe 27.
