Weaving a tape having design appearing on one face only - in which the design is formed by an inter. layer of warp yarns

A woven tape is formed using several (pref. three) layers of warp yarns and two weft yarns inserted into the sheds between the warp layers by pref. a double lance. The sheds are formed so that an inter. layer of warp yarns is interwoven with the superior layer of warp yarns to form a design on the upper face of the woven fabric. The ionter. layer of warp yarns is not interwoven with the lower layer of warp yarns so that no design appears on the underside of the woven fabric. The rear face of the tape is perfectly plain and has no floating yarns which cause localised increased thickness. This is partic. useful, when the tape needs to slide.
