The ball bearing (12) which supports the shaft (13) is retained in the bore of the housing (1) by a disc (5). The disc has a central bore to clear the shaft and three equally spaced arms (7). The arms are bent at right angles to the plane of the disc (5) to enable them to fit into keyways formed in the bore of the housing (1). The arms are forced outwards from their free position when the bearing (12) is inserted so that the bearing is securely held. At the same time the arms prevent any rotation or axial movement of the bearing outer race. For additional strength the arms may be made with a cambered cross-section.
