Iodine-hydrophilic polymer addition products - for treatment of uterine infections, esp. in cows

Addition prods. of =1 g of iodine and a water-insoluble hydrophilic polymer, which liberates the iodine slowly, are new. A typical compsn. contains 25-40% N-vinyl pyrrolidone copolymerised with 45-20% 2-ethylhexylacrylate, the remainder being iodine. This was made into intrauterine suppositories, each contg. 1 g of iodine. Larger doses of iodine may be given and treatment administered less frequency, due to the slow liberation of the iodine. There is no risk of residues passing into the milk, and fertility is not affected.
