The rope-type personnel rescue equipment is for evacuation from the scene of an accident above ground level, particularly from the top floor of a building on fire or a jammed overhead cable car. A rope is secured at the scene, down which the person slides or is evacuated by means of a seat hooked onto rescue equipment. A rope is passed several times round a cylindrical body to give a braking effect, a fixing device being hooked onto its end. At the top of the body when in position for use are two rope guides (2, 3) spaced apart and in the form of hooks or eyes open at one side. The openings face opposite ways and tangentially in relation to the cylindrical body. Typically the guides can be anchor-shaped, open at both sides.
