The equipment consists of housing (20) with a layer of plastics foam on the rear sheet (21) of the housing. Inside the housing a drum is rotatingly seated on an axle(36). The drum accommodates a necessary length of steel cable (14) which leaves the housing at the top (44) through hole (52) with a protective hose sheathing (50). The end of the cable has a safety hook (28) to be attached to a fixed point on the building. The drum is fitted with a rotor extension consisting of a dished disc (38) with radial compartments, in which weights (40) are loosely placed. The weights follow the rotation of the drum and they are forced against the brake lining (44) fitted around the periphery of the housing. For use the complete housing is strapped onto the body of the person to be rescued.
