APPARATUS FOR SEPARATING A GAS FROM A LIQUID, APPLICATIONS TO A SLUDGE REACTOR AND TO A SYNTHESIS PROCESS

An apparatus for separating a gas from a liquid is disclosed. /P P The apparatus comprises a central tube 1 with ascending flow which opens at its top via a weir edge 8 in a separation bell 3 provided with a gas discharge duct 5 and ducts 7 d liquid discharge disposed respectively above and below the weir edge. The weir edge 8 is formed by a system of partitions 9 which divide the space of the bell surmounting the tube and the neighboring space into two types of compartments open on their top and provided with bottoms respectively in the space surmounting the tube and in the adjacent space so as to form alternating ascent and descent compartments. The invention is applicable to a slurry reactor using the above apparatus and to a hydrocarbon synthesis process employing this reactor.
