The method of preserving plants or flowers by drying them evenly, includes enclosing the plants in granular material such as glass balls while a hot gas such as hot air is passed through the material. The size of the grains is between 100 microns and 1 mm, and the maximum temperature of the air is 50 deg.C. Preferably the grain size is between 400 and 600 microns, and the temperature of the air is at least 40 deg.C. The grains can be enclosed in a cylinder and the plants positioned immediately between the inlet and outlet holes with the hot air extracted through the bottom. The grains are supported on a grid of a suitably small mesh size.
