1522859 Railway rails ELEKTRO-THERMIT GmbH 3 Dec 1976 [5 Dec 1975] 50561/76 Heading E1G In order to reduce noise produced by slipping wheels on curves of tramway or other rails, a strip, or a number of laterally-spaced strips 12, of low-friction metal are attached to the rail running surface, the total strip width being not more than 80% of the width of surface 11. The strips 12 may be of rectangular or circular section and are ground true in situ. Each strip may comprise a weld bead, or a preformed wire or strip secured by screws, adhesive or welding. Suitable lowfriction alloys are specified.
