The running tread of a rail has supplementary material layers parallel to the rail's longitudinal direction. These layers are produced by applying sheeting for fusion welding in a submerged arc welding process. The rail is heated up to an increased temperature before applying the sheeting for fusion welding. An independent claim is also included for a tram network rail with narrow curve radii.
