A Method for Producing Ladder Rail Using High Pressure Injection Die Impregnation

A method for producing commercial quality ANSI 14.5 Type I ladder rail using a modified injection die impregnation system is presented. The system is based on controlling the relative permeation rates of resin through the input reinforcement pack by modification of the impregnation chamber design. The objective is to create a pressure gradient of sufficient magnitude to fully wet the reinforcement and to supply resin volume flow sufficient for the requirements of the part and process conditions. The effects of resin viscosity, reinforcement placement, type and level, and resin supply pressure will be discussed.
