1529265 Counting bacteria; inhibiting colonies from spreading MORINAGA MILK INDUSTRY CO Ltd 17 March 1976 10829/76 Heading C6F A method of determining viable bacterial counts of food e.g. cheese or soy bean curd, which is contaminated with spreading-colony forming bacteria is characterized by using a liquefied agar medium, as conventionally used for determining viable bacterial counts of food, containing 2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC) as an inhibitor of colony spreading in an amount of from 0.005 to 0.1 g per 11 of medium. The medium may be prepared by dissolution in water of a powdery agar medium containing the various constituents, including TTC, in the required proportions.
