1485688 Composite synthetic resin pipe KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 24 Oct 1975 [6 Nov 1974] 43865/75 Heading F2P A reinforced plastics pipe or tubing is made by applying glass cloth 2 to the outer surface of a pipe or tube 1 of thermoplastic synthetic resin, thereafter subjecting said outer surface to heat sufficient to melt an outer layer only of said pipe, whereby molten resin 3 is caused to penetrate into the openings in the weave of the glass cloth, and then applying a layer or layers of plastics material 4 reinforced with fibres 5 to the outer surface of the said glass cloth. The layer of fibre reinforced plastics material may be formed by wrapping a hardenable resin impregnated glass fibre material around said glass cloth and then curing said hardenable resin or by wrapping a glass fibre material around said glass cloth and then impregnating the glass fibre material with a hardenable resin and curing. This may be repeated for further layers. The thermoplastic synthetic resin of tube 1 may be a crystalline resin of a polyolefin (e.g. high density polyethylene, polypropylene or polyisobutylene), a polyamide, a polymer of vinylidene chloride or a fluorocarbon polymer (e.g. polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyethylene trifluoride, polyethylene trifluorochloride or polyethylene tetrafluoride). The wall thickness of the pipe or tube may be from 0À5 mm. to 10 mm.
