Composition for foliar application to plants which store glucides during their growth comprises a solid, which is used in aq. solutions or dispersions, free from toxic quantities of halogen or other ions, contg. 7-35 wt.% P2O5 and 8-50 wt.% K2O, the wt. ratio of K2O:P2O5 being greater than 1 (pref. 1.2-1.6 esp. 1.35). The primary compounds used in the composition are pure dipotassium orthophosphate and/or pure tetrapotassium pyrophosphate and/or another pure potassium polyphosphate with =1 other potassium salt. The compsn. also contains wetting agents and opt. adhesives. Used in treatment of sugar beet, sugar cane, potatoes, turnips, carrots, manioc, sweet potato, etc. to increase the yield of glucides. the compsns. are partic. used to increase the sugar-yield from beet and cane.
