ABSTRACTMethod and apparatus of determining totalionic content of an aqueous sample solution by an ionexchange procedure in which all of the cationic speciespresent are converted to an easily eluted alkali metalcation in a first ion exchange resin bed after which theanions in the aqueous sample are all exchanged in ananion exchange resin bed for an easily eluted anion,such as hydroxide or acetate, thereby exchanging all ionspecies in the sample solution for a single predeterminedion pair and thereafter determining the ion concentrationof such ion pair utilizing a responsive detector such asa conductivity cell having associated readout means.
