ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA high speed centrifugal compressor driven throughinterconnection of the centrifugal compressor's input shaftand the power turbine shaft of a power turbine wheel having ahollow central portion for admission of cooling air. Withinthe compressor casing are mounted the first and second cartridgeassemblies through which the compressor shaft extends. Thefirst cartridge assembly includes high speed thrust and journalbearings and a high speed mechanical oil seal. The secondcartridge assembly includes high speed journal bearings and ahigh pressure oil seal. Both cartridge assemblies may providefor reduction of the pressure of the sealing oil used inlubrication of the bearings.
