ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREIt is known that centrifugal compressors may be drivenat high shaft speeds through use of gear trains interposedbetween the compressor and the prime mover. In this inventiona high speed centrifugal compressor is driven through directclose coupling of the centrifugal compressor's input shaftwith the power transfer shaft of a power turbine wheel. Abearing bracket is mounted on the compressor casing and tiltedshoe bearings are provided concentric to the input and powertransfer shafts. The power turbine wheel has a hollow centralportion for admitting cooling air.
