Cephalosporins ofthe formulain which R represents various acyl substituents;R' represents hydrogen or an alkali metal salt, have antibacterial activity.;They can be prepared by reacting 4,5-dihydro-5- thioxo-1H- 1,2,4- triazol-3-yl thioacetic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof with the corresponding 3-acetoxymethyl cephalosporin. The thioacetic acids used as intermediates in preparing cephalosporins of the invention are also part of the present invention.
