Total carbon concn. in the gas or vapour phase of the tested inflammable liquid is measured by a flame ionising detector (FID). Then the corresponding flash point is read from a calibration chart. The chart is obtd. by measurement of the total carbon concentration by a flame ionisation detector (FID) of inflammable liquids whose flash point has been determined by the standard flash point determination. In a typical application, the mathematical statistical evaluation of the measured units correlate according to the relationship y = 89.1-0.008 x, where y is the median ignition point deg.C and x is the carbon concn. in ppm.
