A flame ionization detector has a burner jet (12) associated with a pair of electrodes (14, 16), for measuring the flow of ions generated by combustion. The burner jet has three or more jet outlets for forming two or more flames (34, 36, 38). The three or more jet outlets are in a triangular array in the burner jet, and each has a round shape of 0.2 mm diameter. The jets may be of different size. The burner jet is interchangeable. The burner jet forms one of the electrodes, and the other electrode is cylindrical.
