The three jaw chuck has a locking bolt (17) to hold the tightening key (18) in position when the clamping jaws are released or when a partial, insufficient force is transmitted. In the secured position, one end of the bolt projects into an annular groove (28) of the key which can rotate freely in this position. The bolt is retained in the chuck body and has its head (23) fitting in a key groove (12) in which is arranged a key rod which is pressed against the bolt head in the case of a displacement in the direction of the clamping jaws so as to move the bolt against spring (25) action into its key securing position.
