The large solar collector has heat insulation, which also insulated the building. The insulation is positioned on a supporting frame, and its surface and joints are formed or covered, so as to drain away water, to prevent the opening of the joints at right angles to the insulation surface. The top of the insulation carries distance rails, with the absorption surface passing between the rails and the support rails of the external covering. During facade, construction, conventional windows are replaced by lighting and observation surfaces, the remaining facade sections being used as solar collectors. The lighting surfaces have adjustable mirrors and/or insulation. The observation surfaces have protection against looking in. This protection does not extend to the lighting surfaces, which already include such a protection.
