Parent patent described a monolithic metal catalyst for the detoxification of the exhaust gases of i.c. engines e.g. of motor cars, in which corrugated metal foils are joined up to form a solid element. In this addn. this operation is effected by laser beam welding. Process facilitates the joining of the corrugated metal foils by a seam or spot weld, and also the fixture of the insert to the casing by a fillet weld at the open end.
