Poly-hexa-methylene! isophthalamide prepn. - from salt of isophthalic acid and hexa:methylene di:amine by polycondensation

Polyamides are obtd. by the polycondensation of the salt from isophthalic acid and hexamethylene diamine which has been isolated from a solvent mixt. comprising 85-95, pref. 88-92% of a lower aliphatic alcohol, pref. MeOH or EtOH, and 5-15, pref. 8-12% water. The salt is obtd. in high yields and purity, and the polyamides obtd. are transparent, colourless, soluble in m-cresol even when they have high mol. wts., and have good mechanical properties. They can be worked thermoplastically and are partic. suitable for the prodn. of transparent fibres, bristles, etc.
