Prodn. of 52Mn by a nuclear reaction of metals with light accelerated ions involves bombarding a V target with natural isotope distribution with 3He ions and isolating the 52Mn from the target by a chemical method. Pref. the target consists of V foil and is bombarded with 3He ions accelerated to an energy of ca. 14 MeV. A dwell time is allowed between bombardment and chemical isolation. Mn is useful in nuclear medicine for diagnosis and/or therapy of blood disorders. It is obtd. in highly pure form.
