In a lead-acid accumulator, with aq. acid soln. of Pb salt as electrolyte and inert basic electrodes for the layers of active mass, the positive basic electrode, at least, contains a pigment based on S adn red P or cpds. of these elements which are scarcely soluble in the electrolyte. The additive increases the cycling capacity (lifetime), since smooth layers free fro dendrites and nodules are deposited and these redissolve satisfactorily. Pref. the basic electrode contains 0.01-10 wt.% pigment, esp. BaSO4 and/or tert. Pb phosphate.
