The film (48) from the spool is moved into the gate (5) by an eccentrically mounted drive unit (8) which steps the first sprocket (7). The film is guided into the gate by support mechanisms (20, 22, 24) forming a film loop. A leading edge (17) ensures transport of the film from the primary eccentrically-driven sprocket (7) to the gate guides (20, 22, 24) leaving a loop of film. A slide (14) supports the intermediate leading edge (17) and a rod (49) detecting the position of an inclined edge (50) on a vertical slide (20). A draw spring (51) works to hold the rod (49) on the edge (50).
