In a device for the filling of Petri discs with nutrient media, a bracket on a moving plate causes the disc cover to slide up and leave a slot between cover and bottom glass. The discharge opening of the pouring valve enters into this. The solenoid valve which connects up the storage vessel is controlled by a time switch. Two pairs of contact springs ensure that the filling operation takes place only when a partly opened Petri disc is present. This replaces the manual operation by an automatic germ-free process.
