Solar energy conversion roof - with solar cells contained in individual tiles and coupled to bus bars (BR 21.8.79)

A roof covering for the utilisation of solar energy consists of individual elements in the shape with the contours of an ordinary flat roofing tile which is laid in the conventional way on the roof laths. The exposed part of each tile is covered by a transparent pane and houses solar cells which convert solar radiation to electric current. The overlapping part of each tile includes grooves through which connecting cables can be led and coupled to a bus bar along the roof rafter. These tiles are inexpensive to produce and to install. They do not change the appearance of a roof and can be subsequently installed in existing roofs to replace the conventional tiles.
