Catalyst system contg. two or more metals and one or mpre nonmetallic refractory component is improved in that the metals are applied (pref. by impregnation with a soln. and recution of the impregnating cpd.) onto a first nonmetallic refractory component, which is then mixed with the same but not impregnated nometallic component or with a different nonmetallic refractory component. This catalyst system is used in reforming or isomerisation processes, or the like. There is synergistic catalytic effect produced by combined action of metals and acid sites on the surface of the refractory materials, such as silica, alumina, etc. The two cocatalyst, however, exert a negative effect on each other when being in physical contact. This disadvantage is minimized by using the metals in small amts. only and depositing them on a minor part of the refractory component(s), the major part being just admixed (without impregnation).
