The device described is used for the dimensional inspection of mechanical components. It comprises a base (1) and one or more mobile edges (5, 6) which may be immobilised in a position corresponding precisely to the sides of the mechanical component. It may have a pair of edges adjusted to the minimum value of the side to be inspected and another pair adjusted to the maximum value. The edges may form either a convex section, eg a cone, or a concave section. The base may support a first edge at right angles which can move at a considerable distance from the base and a second edge which moves in the same direction but in a smaller extent, corresponding to the range of tolerance of the component.
