The device (2) has a rotatable and three-dimensionally movable tool body (5) that is movable along an edge of a plastic component (1) i.e. bumper, of an automobile body, where the tool body is rotatably driven. A controller (7) automatically switches on and off a rotary drive (4), and influences a contact pressure between the tool body and the edge of the plastic component. The tool body is fastened to a robot arm (3). An independent claim is also included for a method for processing an edge of a plastic component.
