Cleaning machine for vegetables like asparagus, carrots, leeks etc. - which brushes and washes before cutting and does not cause bruising

The vegetables are passed through the nip of a pair of cylindrical brushes rotating at different speeds in opposite directions on parallel axes which are adjustably spaced. Washing liquid is sprayed on to both brushes from sparge pipes parallel to the axes of the brushes. Vegetables drop from the brushes into the upstream end of a wash tank which pref. delivers at the other end to a cutting and/or trimming table. The liq. supplied to the sparge pipes is pref. water dosed with cleaning agents and/or preserving additives. Really thorough, mechanised cleaning withut bruising or breaking is achieved. Cutting takes place after cleaning so cut surfaces do not become contaminated with engrained sand, grit etc. Cleaned vegetables have attractive, smooth appearance.
