Washing machine for vegetables e.g. potatoes, carrots, etc. - trims, spray washes and jet rinses with optional soaking and shaking

A machine for washing a wide variety of vegetables, esp. those from which sand and/or soil are to be removed. The machine is of the type which is carried on a mobile, wheeled chassis. The vegetables are passed in sequence through a series of operations selected from trimming off leaves, spray-washing, soaking, vibration while immersed and jet rinsing. The prod. is advanced through the machine by an endless conveyor comprising two side bands joined by tubular cross bars. The path of the top run of the conveyor can be adjusted to run horizontally above a washing water tank when the prod. is to be cleaned by spraying and jet rinsing only. Alternatively, the top run can be extended to curve down into and then back up from immersion in the tank. This run is adopted when prod. soaking is required. At the lowest point of this run the conveyor can also be shaken by a mechanical vibrator. A single machine can be adapted to deal with many different vegetables. The machine is very effective in eliminating grains of sand etc. which previously would have remained trapped between leaves.
