The heading or tunnelling machine for mines or civil engineering uses a shovel (21) which is permanently connected to the tooling (22) and is used to load out the spoil etc. from the heading or tunnel face. The machine is mounted on a supporting linkage formed from a chassis with mounted swivel turret linked to the boom and power cylinder, with a swivel unit for the turret linking arms, the boom formed from a rotary rear and leading tool-holding part with associated cylinder. The tooling is designed as a shovel with mounted tooling which remains on the shovel throughout. Preferably, arms lead from the two sides of the turret to the two sides of the boom. The cylinder for swivelling the turret should be positioned between this and the chassis, and two cylinders, is hinged at the sides of the turret and boom respectively.
