The adaptor is fitted to a machine for tying bundles of newspaper. It permits a second cross tying operation to be carried out automatically on the same machine. It comprises two worktables (1, 2), having a gap (3) between. The bundle (9) arrives on a conveyor (5) and straddles the gap, after contacting retractable stops (10). A presser foot (11) descends to hold the bundle and the first tie (17) is made, over the foot (16). The foot rotates the bundle 90 deg. and the second operation is made. The foot retracts upwards and the bundle is removed (7, 8).
