7-Propyl-2'-oxido:spiro-androst-4-ene oxathiolane -3-one - used for treating arterial hypertension and cardiac insufficiency

17R-7alpha-n-Propyl-2'-oxidospiro (androst-4-ene-17,5'-(1', 2') oxathiolane)-3-one of formula (I) is new. Specifically claimed is the isomer having alpha20D = + 2-5 degrees -+2 degrees (c = 1% CCl4). (I) is prepd. by reacting cpd of formula (II) n-propyl-magnesium halide in the presence of a Cu salt and treating the prod. with a N-chloro- or N-bromo-succinamide. (I) are aldosterone antagonists and increase sodium diuresis while allowing retention of organic potassium. (I) are used in treating arterial hypertension and cardiac insufficiency.
