A shearer drum (1) is mounted on a support arm (2) which carries a drive shaft (4) formed with a central recess (3) open at both ends. Passing through the recess (3) is an axial liquid supply tube (5) which carries a ring nozzle (7). When a piston (16) is in a fully or partially withdrawn state, liquid can be supplied to the tube (5) from a feed line (9) through a bore (12) and radial bores (17) and will then pass to nozzles in the drum periphery. Liquid in the bore (12) can also pass through a restriction (21) between parts (6) and (7) to be ejected through the ring nozzle (7) and thus create an enforced air-flow through the recess (3) to the drum end face. The restriction (21) may be varied by rotating the nozzle (7) relative to the tube (5) by means of the screw-thread (13). IMAGE
