MANUFACTURE OF OPENNTUBE TYPE CAPILLARY COLUMN FOR FAST MICROOLIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

PURPOSE:To simplify the manufacture of a column which provides fine-quantity chromatography and high-sensitivity detection by filling a silicate glass hollow tube of fixed size with an alkali solution and then by producing a silica gel deposit on a surface inside the tube while keeping the solution at a fixed temperature. CONSTITUTION:A silicate glass hollow tube of not greater than 0.10mm in inner diameter and not less than 0.5mul in inner volume is filled with an alkali solution of normality 0.5-2, which is left at a temperature of not greater than 70 deg.C for at least five hours. Consequently, a silica gel deposit is produced on the surface inside of the hollow tube. In this case, the hollow tube is made with soda lime glass and the solution uses sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and lithium hydroxide. As a result, high-sensitivity detection and fine-quantity chromatography are possible without allowing a solid-phase liquid to stay on the inside surface of the column.
